In the Hamptons with Jacqueline Coumans

City: HAMPTONS

“I find white cold and boring.”

I think that new things are made to be with you for a long time—if you choose them well and if the quality is good, then you have accomplished something good.” “I love to entertain. I love people. I like the connection and I like hospitality. I like when people feel good here and they have a good time – it makes me feel really happy. I should have had a restaurant. But it’s not about food though, it’s about friends.”

TheRioYou returns with the beautiful beach house of Jacqueline Coumans, french decorator and owner of Le Décor Français located at 72nd e Lexington Av. The designer’s specialty is to mix fabrics and antiques, creating a wide range of ambiances. Her South Hamptons house is composed of exotic fauna & flora, with tonal variations of lilacs and blues. Without fearing lavish visual information, this home’s audacity is done by a woman with skillful eyes, that identifies with multi layerings of prints and styles. All of the fabrics used in the decor are from her store. In an interview for the NY Social Diary, she shares her appreciation of time and the memories of her belongings, “I think that new things are made to be with you for a long time—if you choose them well and if the quality is good, then you have accomplished something good.”. Jacqueline believes a home should be representative of the owner, and to enjoy her free time, she enjoys having friends over. “I love to entertain. I love people. I like the connection and I like hospitality. I like when people feel good here and they have a good time – it makes me feel really happy. I should have had a restaurant. But it’s not about food though, it’s about friends.” As Dona Canô (Caetano Veloso’s deceased mother) would say, “Existing is good, but knowing how to live is even better.”

I adore her room, such an interesting ethnic floral mix.

Reparem na coleção de máscaras indígenas.

Pay attention to her indigenous mask colletion.

Amei a mistura de estampas e o vaso laranja contrastando o azul.

Love the mix of prints and a touch of orange to contrast.
