Welcome to Z.bra! The hostel with the best location possible in Rio de Janeiro. Set in the heart of Leblon, it’s a block away from the beach, walking distance to a great variety of bars and restaurants. The spot can’t get any better than this. The decor of the lobby has a “grandma goes neon” feel to it. The owners decorated themselves, vamping up antique finds with new upholstering. There are a couple of one-of-a-kind details, such as the banana doorknobs and the bunk beds. Each single bed has its own reading light and a safe for laptops, books and personal belongings. One of the owners, Breno Novaes, said “all of the four owners have lived abroad and stayed at many hostels. We had our guest in mind when designing Z.bra, building an environment where he could chill comfortably and keep his things safely.”

I recently had my birthday party there and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive and hospitable. A week before my birthday, while shooting the hostel, I talked to some of the guests hanging out at the bar and many said it was their 2nd or 3rd stay at Z.bra. It is just one of the places were you always want to come back.

Take a close attention to the compartments next to the beds: the cubihole in the middle is a safe to store laptops, books and personal belongings. Each bed also has its own reading light.
